TREC requires 18 hours of approved CE every two years. Here's what you need to know.
Texas requires every licensed agent and broker to complete 18 TREC-approved CE hours per renewal cycle — no exceptions.
Legal Update I & II (8 hrs combined) plus Contracts (3 hrs) — TREC-required courses every renewal cycle, same curriculum for everyone.
Elective CE — pick any TREC-approved topic. Use these hours to build real business skills, not just satisfy a compliance checkbox.
StepStone University is TREC-approved for both mandatory and elective CE — complete your full 18-hour renewal with one provider.
Show up, learn something valuable. We report your CE hours directly to TREC automatically — no paperwork, no follow-up needed on your end.
Questions about your CE requirements? We'll help you figure it out.
TREC requires 18 hours of continuing education every two years. Here's exactly what that means for your license renewal.
New agent? This 18-hour CE cycle applies to your second renewal and beyond. If you haven't completed your first renewal yet, you're in the Sales Apprentice Education (SAE) period — a separate 90-hour requirement. See the FAQ for details.

Texas law requires every licensed agent and broker to complete 18 CE hours each renewal cycle. TREC divides these into 11 mandatory hours (steps 2–4) and 7 elective hours (step 5).
TREC rule changes, contract form updates, and Texas real estate law amendments for the current renewal period. Same curriculum across all approved providers — no substitutions allowed.
Agency relationships, ethics, and fiduciary duties under Texas law. Must be completed in the same two-year renewal cycle as Legal Update I.
TREC-promulgated contract forms, addenda, and disclosure requirements. Required every renewal cycle alongside both Legal Updates to ensure agents maintain current contract knowledge.
Any TREC-approved CE course qualifies. This is where StepStone comes in — use your 7 elective hours to learn creative financing, wholesaling, deal analysis, and more.
StepStone covers thisShow up, learn something useful, and you're done. We report your completion directly to TREC after attendance is confirmed — no paperwork on your end.

Four reasons our students come back every renewal cycle — and actually look forward to it.
Every course is approved by the Texas Real Estate Commission. Earn your mandatory Legal Update I & II hours and stack elective CE toward your next renewal — all in one place.
Every attendee gets the full class recording. Rewatch key sections, review deal breakdowns, or catch anything you missed — something most CE providers never offer.
Live Zoom sessions or in-person classes in Austin — weekdays, evenings, and weekends. Renew your license on your schedule without sacrificing production time.
Our instructors are active investors and agents who close deals every week — not classroom-only educators. Every concept connects directly to strategies you can put to work the next day.
Real agents. Real results. These are the people who stopped settling for boring CE.
"I've sat through CE at convention centers where the instructor clearly hasn't been in the field in years. StepStone flipped that. My instructor closed a creative financing deal the same week he was teaching it. That real-world context is worth more than any textbook."
Marcus Webb
REALTOR®, Keller Williams Austin
"Knocked out all 7 elective hours in two weekends without leaving my home office. The virtual sessions are tight — no dead air, no Zoom fatigue. TREC credit posted within the same week. Easiest renewal I've had in eight years of holding my license."
Priya Sharma
Buyer's Agent, Austin Suburbs
"The deal analysis class changed how I run my numbers. Three weeks after taking it, I walked away from a deal that looked fine on the surface but failed every metric we covered in class. That one decision alone saved me far more than the course cost."
David Castillo
Real Estate Investor & Agent, San Antonio
We get it — this isn't your typical CE provider. Here's what you need to know.
Texas requires 18 hours of TREC-approved CE every two years to renew your real estate license. Those 18 hours break down as:
StepStone classes count toward your 7 elective hours. At 2–3 hours per class, three to four classes satisfy your full elective requirement.
Newly licensed? This 18-hour CE requirement applies to your second renewal and beyond. Your first renewal requires Sales Apprentice Education (SAE) — a separate 90-hour program. Our CE classes don't count toward SAE (except Legal Update I & II). Learn more below.
Yes. StepStone University is an approved CE provider under StepStone Realty, LLC — Provider #10162. Every class is submitted to and approved by TREC before it appears on this site, so the hours you earn count toward your license renewal.
You don't have to do anything. StepStone University reports your completed hours directly to TREC upon class completion. The hours appear in your TREC portal within a few business days. You can verify them any time at trec.texas.gov.
Your 18 hours break down into four required categories:
TREC tracks completion directly from approved providers — you don't submit anything yourself. StepStone reports your hours automatically upon class completion.
Texas requires 18 CE hours every two years for license renewal — 4 hours Legal Update I, 4 hours Legal Update II, 3 hours Contracts (all TREC-mandatory), and 7 hours of elective CE. See the How CE Works in Texas section on this page for a full breakdown, or visit the TREC website for official requirements.
StepStone agents attend every class for free. If you hang your license with StepStone Realty, your CE is a benefit of the brokerage — no per-class fees, ever. Want ALL your CE free? Join the flock.
For agents at other brokerages, classes are $35 per class — a flat rate, no subscriptions or bundles required. Exact pricing is confirmed on each class card in the schedule above.

Absolutely. StepStone CE classes are open to all licensed Texas real estate agents, regardless of brokerage. Click Register on any class card and you'll be guided through a quick checkout to reserve your seat. Hours are reported to TREC just the same.
Nope. Our classes are open to anyone interested in real estate investing, creative finance, and deal analysis — licensed or not. You'll get the same live instruction, real-deal breakdowns, and full class recording as everyone else.
The only difference: licensed agents earn TREC-approved CE credit toward their renewal. If you don't have a license (or don't need the CE hours), you still walk away with practical knowledge you can use immediately.
Important distinction: If you're renewing your license for the first time, you're in your Sales Apprentice Education (SAE) period — and that has completely different requirements. SAE requires 90 hours of qualifying education that is separate from continuing education. Our CE classes do not count toward SAE (with the exception of Legal Update I and Legal Update II, which overlap).
The 18-hour CE renewal cycle described on this page applies to your second renewal and beyond — after you've completed your SAE requirements and held your license through the first renewal period.
